Hiring DSPAs for Italian Projects

LITS is seeking to hire for the Spring 2026 semester two students as Digital Scholarship Project Assistants (DSPAs) to collaborate on one of two digital projects led by Professor Luca Zipoli of the Department of Transnational Italian Studies:

  1. “Cotto e mangiato. Corso di Italiano Multiculturale,” the Department of Transnational Italian Studies’ open-source textbook, and
  2. “Italian Outreach,” focused on improving the “Bryn Mawr College Italian” YouTube channel.

DSPA for “Cotto e mangiato”

Project Description

“Cotto e mangiato. Corso di Italiano Multiculturale” (volume 1 and volume 2) is an open educational resource authored by Professors Roberta Ricci and Luca Zipoli of the Department of Transnational Italian Studies. The successful candidate will work as collaborator to both the students and the instructor to correct, improve, and enhance the database of digital and interactive exercises that constitutes a major part of the OER project. As part of their work, the DSPA will gain proficiency with web publishing platforms with mentorship from LITS staff. Duties Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for helping improve the Moodle pages of the open-source textbook “Cotto e mangiato. Corso di Italiano Multiculturale,” which constitutes a major part of the Department of Transnational Italian Studies’ OER project. They will be responsible for building content in Moodle and Moodle.net and helping current and future students in Italian take advantage of this interactive pedagogical tool to improve their language proficiency skills. Knowledge of Italian required.

  • Experience with web publishing, OER, and/or educational tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Creativity and graphic design skills
  • Completion of the course ITAL B001 and B002 at Bryn Mawr College

DSPA for “Italian Outreach”

Project Overview

“Italian Outreach” is a project focused on improving the Department of Transnational Italian Studies’ YouTube channel, “Bryn Mawr College Italian.” The successful candidate will work as captioner, subtitler, and translator to provide users with accurate captions and subtitles in both English and Italian for the videos currently uploaded on the channel. The position is sponsored by the Digital Bryn Mawr Grant Program and LITS. For more information, please contact lzipoli@brynmawr.edu and cboucher@brynmawr.edu. 

Duties Overview

The successful candidate will take advantage of the AI captioning tools included in the YouTube Video Editing interface to improve the channel’s accessibility and inclusivity. Proficiency in both Italian and English is required. As part of their work, the candidate will gain proficiency with the YouTube Creator Studio platform. LITS will provide training and technical advising as needed throughout the semester. Knowledge of Italian is required.
